Permutive applies cryptographic hashing to all user identifiers entering the Audience Platform. In conjunction with salting, this ensures that sensitive identifiers for onboarded data cannot be extracted even in the unlikely event that an adversary gains access to Permutive's internal systems. Salting protects against brute-force and pre-computed hash attacks like the use of rainbow tables. Internally, hashing and access to the salt is isolated to a single standalone service with independent credentials to reduce the attack surface area.
