Edge Computing or Edge Processing is defined as the deployment of data-handling activities or other network operations away from centralized and always-connected network cohorts and toward individual sources of data capture, such as endpoints like laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
Permutive uses edge processing /computing technology to process data on the device, rather than relying on the cloud. As this is a fundamentally different way of processing data, our DMP has been specifically architected this way, and this comes with a whole host of speed, scale, and privacy benefits. Permutive leverages client-side storage mechanisms to store some of the segment and event information we need for edge processing. It enables us to persist state across a user's pageviews and visits.
