A guide to the differences between On Entry, On Exit and Every Time when setting up activations.
Three types of activations triggers
We support three types of activation trigger with respect to the activation's cohort:
- On entry: the activation is triggered when the user enters the cohort.
- On exit: the activation is triggered when the user exits the cohort.
- Every time: the activation is triggered every time a user visits a page while in that cohort.
Here we will break out exactly what each of these means.
On Entry | This will trigger an activation immediately when a user enters a cohort. Cohorts are evaluated every time an event is received. This means that as soon as an event comes into Permutive that means a user meets cohort criteria, the activation will be triggered. |
On Exit |
This will trigger an activation immediately when a user leaves a cohort. Cohorts are evaluated every time an event is received. This means that as soon as an event comes into Permutive that means a user no longer meets cohort criteria, the activation will be triggered. |
Every Time |
This will trigger an activation every page load, while a user is in a cohort. This means that when a user enters a cohort, an 'every time' activation would not be triggered until their next page load. |
