When you create Segments in Permutive, we start tracking some additional events. These events are called SegmentEntry and SegmentExit. They are triggered every time a user enters and exits a segment. Each event contains default data and additional properties.

Each event contains the following additional properties:

  • Segment ID. STRING.
  • Segment Name. STRING.
  • Segment Number. FLOAT.

Permutive enriches all events with details of all the segments a user currently belongs to, this field can be found under segments in your Data Warehouse.

Both of these can be useful in Analytics and also in verifying that segments are behaving as expected.

These events should not be used for segmentation as if a user exits the referenced segment, they will not exit the segment created on top of the SegmentEntry event.
