Permutive assigns all users a unique ID which is used to track a user across multiple pageviews. If you want to take this a step further and track users across multiple browsers or devices, you can use your own identifier with Permutive. This is particularly useful if your site allows users to login, as you will likely have your own ID for any user who has logged in.

To use your own user IDs with Permutive, a small technical change is needed on site. We provide a JavaScript function permutive.identify which enables you to pass in your own custom ID. You can pass in a custom ID as a single parameter to this function, for example permutive.identify(“some-id-here”). This additional line of code should be at the end of your Permutive JavaScript tag, just before </script>.
